The most wonderful content in the world is
worthless if a website visitor never sees it.
That's why page
length is an important consideration in website design. Theoretically,
the length of a web page is unlimited -- you can go on forever with
your text and, being long winded, we sometimes do. However, most website visitors
dislike scrolling down a screen to read the content as much as they
dislike scrolling sideways to read the content. It had better be
really interesting stuff (such as our discussion of web design
considerations!) to keep people reading.
Long pages can also take longer to load. People
dislike scrolling; people really hate waiting for web pages
to load. But, whether the page is short or long, the important
content should always be placed "above the fold" (the area
of the screen visible without downward scrolling).
Yes, we know, you're now below the fold. Page is
long enough. Move along. Nothing more to read here. Follow the links
