Our Web Design Philosophy is Simple. If you're on a budget, as most people are, stay away from the bells and whistles that take a team of IT professionals to keep running smoothly. That doesn't mean your website has to be ugly or poor performing or have limited function, but it does mean that it has to be designed for efficient operation. What are bells and whistles? Beyond the essential content and operational features (shopping carts, forms, etc.), everything else is a bell or a whistle. That means things that can entertain or annoy, such as animations and music or anything that requires people to download additional software to see or hear. While we love color, and we're fond of pictures of lakes and ducks, we're not into lots and lots of swirling, scrolling, and blinking things on a web page. A little maybe, to catch your attention, and maybe for Holiday decorations for a short period of time. We have a similar cautious approach to music on websites. Sometimes special effects enhance the web viewer's experience. More often than not, they will make your web pages slow loading. And if you have a lot of them, it can make your web pages incredibly slow-loading on dial-up Internet connections -- what you might have found if you tried to look at our Clinton design team's Holiday graphics pages on a dial-up connection. Bottom-line. The less fancy stuff you put on your website, the faster it will load and the more people and search engines will like it. And the less fancy stuff, the less your website will cost to build and maintain. design philosophy tools goals decisions Color in web design Music in web design Design decisions FAQs Java Flash Music
